James Allen
James Allen (28 November 1864 in Leicester, England – 1912) was a philosophical writer of British nationality known for his inspirational books and poetry. He authored 19 books and a magazine called ‘Epoch’. His writings are often considered part of the New Thought Movement. The most famous of his books is As a Man Thinketh, a book which influenced many contemporary writers including Norman Vincent Peale, Earl Nightingale, Denis Waitley and Anthony Robbins, among others.
The quote “Circumstance does not make a man, it reveals him” is found in As a Man Thinketh. The full quotation is: “Circumstance does not make the man, it reveals him to himself”.
